The main topic of the conference was the question of the optimum ratio of different types of electricity generation in the energy balance of the country.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Slovak Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Marta Žiaková, the head of the local government of the Trnava region, ex-director of the "Jaslovské Bohunice" NPP, Tibor Mikuš, the president of the Federation of Employers' Associations of the Slovak Republic, former minister of economy Tomáš Malatinský and others. The event was visited by the Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
In his speech the head of Rosatom Central Europe Vadim Titov said that nuclear generation was to remain an integral part of the European energy mix as the energy strategy of the European Union was aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preventing the rise of the global temperature. He also stressed that half of Europe's reactor fleet was already approaching the end of their 30-year service lifetime, and this process raised the issue of extending the service lifetime of existing NPPs and commissioning new units.
Vadim Titov pointed out that the lifetime-extension of a nuclear power plant would provide base load electricity for another 20-35 years at a relatively low cost – for only about 10-20% of the cost of building new reactors.
"We have gained a lot of experience and competence in the field of servicing and modernizing nuclear power plants with VVER reactors. Today we carry out projects not only in Russia but also abroad. In a consortium with France's EDF we participate in the modernization of the Kozloduy NPP in Bulgaria and we are working on the lifetime-extension of the Armenian NPP, "- said the the head of Rosatom Central Europe.
Speaking about the construction of new units, Vadim Titov emphasized that Rosatom successfully implements the construction of 30 units in 12 countries, including Finland, Hungary, Turkey, Belarus, China, India and others. "Through our comprehensive offer on the basis of VVER technology we can offer to our potential customers a guaranteed price of electricity, which allows us not only to compete with other nuclear vendors, but also with conventional energy," - he said.
"Rusatom International Network" was the partner of the conference.
