Power Machines’ equipment will be installed at six new NPP power units in Russia, India and Iran

Декабря 23, 2015

The total price of the contracts exceeds RUR 122 bln.

Directorate for Consolidated Equipment Procurement JSC (CEPD JSC) being a part of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation and Power Machines OJSC signed a contract package for supply of complete turbine generator equipment for three new nuclear power plants under construction – NPP Busher (Iran), NPP Kudankulam (India) and Kurskaya NPP-2 (Russia).

The documents were signed by Denis Tarlo, Chief Executive Officer, CEPD JSC, and Roman Philippov, General Director, Power Machines OJSC.

The award of the contracts has been preceded by an open two-stage bidding process, during which Power Machines won three bids as a bidder that had offered the best technical and commercial solutions.

The contracts provide that Power Machines will design, manufacture and supply six sets of equipment for machine buildings, two sets per a power plant:

- For Kurskaya NPP-2 (Units Nos. 1 and 2): two 1,255 MW complete turbine generator sets, including a new product developed by Power Machines - low-speed steam turbines, condensers and auxiliary system components, as well as two complete turbine generators with auxiliary system components.

- For second stages of NPP Kudankulam (Units Nos. 3 and 4) and Busher (Units Nos. 2 and 3): four 1,000 MW complete turbine generator sets, including high-speed steam turbines, condensers and auxiliary system components, as well as two complete turbine generators with auxiliary system components.

Power units for foreign NPP’s - Kudankulam and Busher - will be furnished with Power Machines’ high-speed machines (3,000 rpm), which are currently used at 27 NPP power units in Russia, Ukraine, China, Iran, India, etc.

For Kurskaya NPP-2, Power Machines OJSC will manufacture low-speed steam turbines (1,500 rpm) and 1,255 MW turbine generators. These are new innovative solutions developed by Power Machines and oriented to nuclear power units with Russian-made new-generation highly reliable and safe VVER-TOI reactors. The project is based on the current requirements for new nuclear power plant units in Russia and abroad.

Based on the experience in developing high-power high-speed steam turbines and latest scientific achievements, Power Machines have been designing a 1,255 MW turbine generator set for several years. The company has performed a package of successive activities for research and development, experimental development of new assemblies using bench-scale and full-scale test units, and process planning.

To enable manufacture of Power Machines’ innovative equipment, a state-of-the-art high-tech manufacturing facility was built and commissioned for production of power machines of 500 MW and higher, including low-speed turbine generator sets for nuclear power plants of 1,200 MW and higher, with future product line expansion up to 1,800 MW.

“Rosatom’s large-scale program for construction of NPP power units in Russia and abroad involves a substantial volume of orders for domestic manufacturers,” said Denis Tarlo, Chief Executive Officer, CEPD JSC, after signing the contracts. “Today, we have signed a significant contract with Power Machines for production of turbine building equipment. I would like to express my special appreciation to all companies involved in this procurement process. We are committed to cooperate with reliable and responsible suppliers, who are expected to participate in other Rosatom’s bidding procedures.”

Kirill Komarov, First Deputy CEO for Corporate Development and International Business, ROSATOM, ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation, said, on his part, “By now, we are placing a second order in this year for a turbine building package with a low-speed turbine. I’m especially glad that we have finally established the production lines in our country and the project based on fully Russian low-speed technology is being launched. For Power Machines, this contract will be an opportunity to make reference to themselves, which is of utmost importance in the nuclear power industry. We are expecting to get the best quality equipment within the deadline.

During signing the document package, Roman Philippov, General Director, Power Machines OJSC, emphasised the following: "We understand the fact of signing of the contracts to manufacture the equipment for such important power facilities in Russia and abroad as a proof of confidence on the part of Rosatom and appreciate the invitation for bid. The national policy aimed at development of nuclear industry enables competitive promotion of domestic power-plant engineering products on Russian and international markets, as well as implementation of a low-speed turbine generator set production process, which new to Russian market. I’m sure that this is an essential event for Russian power industry and a substantive and significant step towards the future development of Russian manufacturing industry." The development of this low-speed turbine generator set in accordance with the requirements for construction of new nuclear power plants, will allow Power Machines OJSC to enter the low-speed high-power turbine market and compete with the world leaders in power plant engineering.
