Transneft North expands tank farms

The works were performed in accordance with Technical Upgrading and Revamping Program of Transneft North, JSC. On December 20, 2015 after reconstruction at Usa PS the fifth planned for commissioning in 2015 tank No. 2 with amount of 10 thousand cubic meters (VST (vertical steel tank)- 10000) with a floating roof was commissioned.

The planned reconstruction of VFRT (Vertical Floating-Roof Tank)-10000 No. 2 was conducted with partial replacement of metal works and installation of a floating roof for decreasing losses of oil hydrocarbons light ends. In total this year Transneft North, JSC commissioned three tanks for oil storage with total capacity of 28 thousand cubic meters and two tanks for emergency water with construction value of 3 thousand cubic meters (VST30000) with total capacity of 6 thousand cubic meters.

The works on reconstruction of the tanks are performed using modern repair technologies and materials, allowing prolonging service life up to ten years. The tanks under reconstruction are being equipped with modern management and firefighting automation systems.

In October 2015 within the process of the planned works at Usa PS VFRT-20000 No. 11 was constructed and commissioned. This tank is equipped with a floating roof for decreasing losses of oil hydrocarbons light ends; modernization of electrical equipment, firefighting and irrigation systems was performed. Construction was performed after dismantling the previous tank in 2014, which was operating from 1979.

In November 2015 as part of technical upgrading at Ukhta PCS (Ukhta Regional Department) tank No. 4 with amount of 5 thousand cubic meters was commissioned.

Besides, in November 2015 in the territory of Ukhta-1 PS and Privodino PS two tanks for emergency water VST with amount of 3 thousand cubic meters were commissioned after construction.

In total in Transneft North, JSC system there are 25 vertical steel tanks (VST) with total capacity of about 352 thousand cubic meters.

The important task is maintenance of the tanks condition in accordance with regulations. For this purpose a set of works, oriented to elimination of detected defects of supporting structures, increasing their corrosion protection, minimizing oil vapors discharge in the air, increasing fire protection level, is performed. In 2014 Transneft North, JSC constructed one new vertical steel tank; in 2015 two VST were reconstructed and one new constructed. Within the period up to 2020 the enterprise is planning to conduct reconstruction and overhaul of the tank farm with the amount of 100 thousand cubic meters.
