Nuclear share in Russia’s energy mix has increased up to 18.6% from 17.2 in 2015

Января 14, 2016

A share of Russian NPPs (branches of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC) in the country’s energy mix has increased up to 18.6% in 2015. For comparison, in 2014 power units of all 10 Russian operating nuclear power plants produced 17.2% of the total electricity generation in Russia.

Thus, an increase was 1.4% as compared to 2014.

It is worth noting that on the whole in 2015 in Russia electricity generation was about 1049 billion kWh (as per the System Operator of the Unified Power System’s data). At this, Russian nuclear power units produced about 195 billion kWh, a record amount of electricity generated over the history of Russian nuclear power.

Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC incorporates all 10 nuclear power plants of Russia, which have the status of branches of Rosenergoatom, as well as companies that support operations of the nuclear utility. At Russian nuclear power plants there are 35 power units in the commercial operation: 18 with VVER reactors (of them 12 are VVER-1000 and 6 are VVER-440 of different modifications); 15 with pressure tube reactors (11 power units with RBMK-1000 reactors, 4 power units with EGP-6 reactors); and 2 power units with sodium-cooled fast neutron reactors BN-600 and BN-800.
