INPP Received a License for the Construction and Operation of the Landfill Facility for Short-lived Very Low Level Waste

Января 15, 2016

INPP received a license from the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) for the construction and operation of the Landfill Facility for short-lived very low level waste (project B19-2).

An application for the license was submitted in June 2012.

Three modules Storage Facility will be built on the territory of INPP. The Facility will be able to store 60 000 m3 of very low level radioactive waste. Short-lived very low level waste management will be finalized after its placement in the Storage Facility. Biological and artificial barriers will ensure that the radioactive waste do not have any contact with the environment. After the Facility is sealed it will remain under supervision for at least a 100 years.

It is planned to start the construction of the Landfill Facility in mid-2016 and its operation at the end of 2018.

Same type of Landfill Facilities are already in operation in Sweden, France, and Spain.

The first part of this Project (B19-1) was completed in 2013. Buffer Storage Facility, designed for the interim waste storage has been built and is in operation.
