After the renovation of the hydraulic turbine its blades are capable of changing an angle depending on flow rate and head, which enhances operation efficiency of the hydroelectric unit. At present, nine out of the eighteen hydraulic turbines of the plant have been turned to the rotating blade operation mode. Furthermore, the hydraulic turbines of Cheboksarskaya HPP feature environmentally friendly design with oil-free impeller hubs. This eliminates the possibility of oil ingress in water.
Power Machines OJSС also manufactured a new stator for hydrogenerator No. 10. The old stator was assembled from six segments. The new one features a core assembled into ring, an ideal shape and an even air clearance between the stator and the rotor. This allows to enhance operation performances of the hydroelectric unit, reduce vibration and extend generator’s service life. Installation of the new equipment was performed by staff of RusHydro’s subsidiary – Gidroremont-VKK JSC.
Large-scaled works at hydraulic unit No.10 within the framework of RusHydro’s Comprehensive Retrofit Program (CRP) started in June 2014, and its launch marked completion of another modernization phase at Cheboksarskaya HPP. This is the second plant machine that boasts not only a rotating blade turbine, but also a new generator stator. In September, similar renovation works completed at hydraulic unit No.2.
RusHydro and Power Machines OJSС continue large-scale joint projects to renovate the equipment at Cheboksarskaya HPP. So far, hydraulic power engineers have already shipped impellers of hydraulic turbines Nos. 5 and 13 to the manufacturer in order to have rotating blade operation mode recovered. Simultaneously, Gidroremont-VKK JSC is installing a new stator of hydrogenerator No.13 on site, proceeding to the assembly of the new stator at hydraulic unit No.5 and dismounting hydraulic unit No.17 – for further turbine renovation and stator replacement.
By 2025, RusHydro plans to turn all turbines at Cheboksarskaya HPP to the rotating blade operation mode and to install new stators on all of the hydrogenerators.
