The 80 MW total of four hydropower units will be installed at the power plant.
A hydropower unit includes a hydraulic turbine and a hydrogenerator. An assembled impeller of adjustable blade turbine has the diameter of 6.3 m and weighs about 100 tons. The generator rotor assembly weighs 320 tons; it will be moved to its proper location by two traveling cranes with the capacity of 250 tons each, which have already been installed in the machine hall. Some of the components, though, are smaller, which enabled the transportation from St.-Petersburg to the construction site in Amur region by railway.
The Delivery Contract for the four 80 MW hydropower units for Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP was made between «Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP» (a subsidiary of RusHydro PJSC) and Power Machines in September 2013.
Under the Contract, Power Machines is responsible for the design, delivery, installation supervision and installation of four hydropower units, with each of them including an adjustable blade turbine with an automated control system, a hydrogenerator with an excitation system, and auxiliary equipment.
After commissioning, the design capacity of Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP will make 320 MW, with the average yearly output being 1,650 mln kW/h. The hydropower units will be put into operation in 2016.
The project is peculiar for the environmentally safe design of hydraulic turbines, as the impeller chamber with the blade adjustment mechanism is not filled with oil, which prevents its spill into the water.
