During the implementation of B2 Project (Solid Radioactive Waste Retrieval Facility), the management of SE Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant has made a decision to make additional calculations of the operational solid radioactive waste storage facility buildings’ bearing capacity due to the load of retrieval modules that will be built on the roof of these facilities.
The decision to perform additional calculations was made by the management of INPP in order to evaluate impact of possible insignificant nonconformities to the buildings bearing capacity and to avoid unnecessary speculations about the quality and safety standards of this Project.
Preliminary evaluation completed by INPP experts and specialists contracted from AMEC concluded that insignificant nonconformities have no essential impact neither on the bearing capacity of these facilities nor the safety of equipment being installed.
Moreover, INPP wants to pay attention that all decommissioning projects are implemented in accordance with the set standards and requirements and no exceptions have ever been and will be made with regard to safety and quality assurance at Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant.
