The Taganrog Boiler-Making Works Krasny Kotelshchik, which is a part of Power Machines, received the certificate confirming that the circulating fluidized bed Boiler for Novocherkasskaya TPP meets the requirements of the Technical regulations of the Customs Union "On safety of the equipment operating under excessive pressure". This document shall provide the right to operate the boiler.
The circulating fluidized bed (CFB) Boiler with supercritical steam parameters for Unit No. 9 of Novocherkasskaya TPP is designed, manufactured and delivered by Krasny Kotelshchik together with the Finnish division of Amec Foster Wheeler (United Kingdom).
The CFB technology has two main advantages. The first one shall allow using and efficient firing a wide range of fuels, including low quality fuels: some types of coals, petroleum coke, peat, shale, various types of biomass.
The Boiler for Novocherkasskaya TPP is designed for firing such "difficult" energy fuels like AC (anthracite culm) coal and Kuznetsk coal. This Boiler quality is especially important for Novocherkasskaya TPP because it allows using local coals as the fuel.
The second one and equally important advantage of the CFB Boiler shall include ecological properties, which are achieved due to the low-temperature (900 degrees centigrade) coal firing process as well as the use of limestone as a firing process component. In consequence the hazardous emissions such as nitrogen and sulfur oxides are reduced to a safe level without the use of special gas-cleaning equipment. In addition, the CFB Boiler is effective, as it has a high efficiency when operating on low-grade energy fuels.
"Development and implementation of the advanced technological concepts is one of the most important elements of Krasny Kotelshchik development strategy. The CFB technology application at the Russian NPPs shall mean entering a new technological level both for us and for our colleagues-power engineers. Such technological innovations will provide the future, so we are now actively engaged in the study of CFB technology and its development," – comments on Gennady Zhukov, Deputy General Director of Engineering in TKZ Krasny Kotelshchik.
