First Pipe Deliveries Start from the Pipe Mills

Октября 26, 2016

OMK has started its first delivery of high-quality steel pipes for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline from its mill in Vyksa, Russia. The pipes will be transported by rail to the coating plant in Kotka, Finland/

Chelpipe, one of the three pipe suppliers selected by Nord Stream 2 AG, located in Chelyabinsk, Russia, will start its deliveries to the Kotka coating plant the following day. The train deliveries from both Russian pipe mills will include approximately 300 pipes each. Almost half of all pipes required to build the pipeline system will be coated in Kotka.

Pipe production at EUROPIPE GmbH’s plant in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, will start in October, with its first pipes to the coating plant in Mukran, Germany, scheduled for early November, 2016.

Nord Stream 2’s logistics follows the award-winning ‘green logistics’ concept successfully implemented by Nord Stream. It is based on low-emission means of transport with the shortest possible distances, and aims at an optimised delivery from the pipe mills to the coating plants, then on to the interim storage yards around the Baltic Sea and eventually to the pipe-lay vessel. The logistics hubs chosen along the coast of the Baltic Sea will have a maximum distance of 100 nautical miles (185 kilometres) to the planned pipeline route.
