Power generation capacity of Gusinoozyorskaya TPP increases by 30 MW

Previously the power generation unit’s capacity had been reduced due to changes in the plant’s fuel balance and the transition to off-design coal (depletion of the resource base of Gusinoozyorsky mine). The project being implemented will allow the plant to reduce fuel supply risks and use coal from Okino-Clyuchevsky strip mine (LLC Ugolny Razrez is a part of Inter RAO Group), as well as from Gusinoozyorsky mine (Zagustayskoye mine and Bain-Zurkhe) without load limitations.

As a result of the work carried out, the furnace volume has increased by 12%, which together with an increased number of pulverized fuel pipes will ensure the combustion of a larger volume of fuel and increase boiler steam capacity by 120 tons/hour. A scheme of staged fuel combustion with the use of low-emission burners has been organized to reduce the level of emissions. To reduce dependence on fuel quality, a furnace water cleaning system has been installed that will ensure slag-free operation.

The measures undertaken will increase the efficiency of the boiler by 1.2% and reduce the unit’s SRFC by 5.96 g/kWh.

The total sum of investment in the project amounts to 300 mln rubles.

The modernization of the unit was completed almost a month ahead of schedule due to the proper organization of work of all the plant’s units and contractors. From March 10 to 12, 2017, a 48-hour controlled operation was conducted. Tests of the boiler and auxiliary boiler equipment under different loads will continue from March 18. Tests with a nominal load of 200 MW will begin on March 20, 2017.

“The project implemented is a part of the company’s strategy aimed at improving financial and operational performance of plants, as well as at reducing the risk of accidents through carrying out modernization and overhaul of the existing equipment,” said Timur Lipatov, Director General of LLC Inter RAO – Management of Electric Power Plants, “In addition, the modernization of the power generation unit will make it possible to increase the revenue of Gusinoozyorskaya TPP (GRES) from capacity sales on WECM, which will improve the plant’s economic performance.”
