Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Signed Agreement for Construction of new Landfill Facility

State Enterprise Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant signed the Agreement for construction of the Landfill Facility for short-lived very low level waste and execution of design, construction, and connection of utility sections to the existing infrastructure of INPP (Project B19-2).

Contractor – Joint Venture Partners Group AB “Eurovia Lietuva”, UAB “Vilstata”, and UAB “Ekobana”.

The main aim of the Project is to construct the Landfill Facility for short-lived very low level waste (also known as the Landfill Facility), as well as to design and construct required utilities. New landfill Facility will include three disposal modules to be used for short-lived very low level waste. Estimated quantity of short-lived very low level waste to be placed into the Landfill Facility is 60 000 m3. Waste will be deemed as finally handled after its placement to the Landfill Facility.

In the nearest future INPP and the Contractor will agree on the detailed programme of performance. Anticipated completion of construction works is February 2019.

Project B19-2 is financed under the Ignalina Programme of the European Union.

The first part of this Project (B19-1) was completed in 2013. Buffer Storage Facility, designed for the interim waste storage has been built and is used for accumulation of waste before their transportation to the Landfill Facility.
