Westinghouse and Turboatom sign extended partnership contract

Сентября 30, 2017

Westinghouse Electric Company today announced that it has signed an extended Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ukrainian company PJSC Turboatom, in partnership to coordinate and cooperate on increasing the capacity of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.

Turboatom is one of the world's leading companies in designing and manufacturing turbines for nuclear, thermal and hydro power plants.

“This strategic cooperation with Turboatom is an excellent example of how Westinghouse is committed to providing our customer, Energoatom, with innovative technical solutions to further improve plant capacity, efficiency and safety,” said Aziz Dag, Westinghouse vice president and managing director, Northern and Eastern Europe. “We also look forward to working with other local Ukrainian suppliers to support our activities related to the potential Energy Bridge Project in Ukraine.”

The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine has recently approved an analysis on “Energy Bridge Ukraine – European Union,” to be implemented in partnership between state-owned and private companies. The decision of the Ministry was taken based on the Feasibility Study delivered by Westinghouse Electric Company, Polenergia International S.á r.l. and EDF Trading Limited. Within the timeframe of the potential Energy Bridge Project, a significant power uprate of existing Energoatom VVER-1000 reactors in Ukraine is needed. There are currently 13 VVER-1000 type reactors operating in Ukraine.

Estinghouse has been working in the Ukrainian market since 1992, and brings diversification of suppliers, global best practices and technology to the Ukrainian market. Westinghouse began its work in the country through the supply of safety related upgrades to the country’s nuclear fleet in the mid-1990s. A subsequent establishment of a sizeable engineering center, combined with the transfer of technology and training of hundreds of Ukrainian nuclear specialists were later performed. Westinghouse has had a successful joint venture in Kharkiv for almost 20 years with approximately 200 employees who are trained to European Union (EU) and U.S. standards and developing products tailored to the Ukrainian market.
