Eesti Energia is building a solar power station to the roof of Tasku centre

Марта 19, 2018

Eesti Energia is going to build a solar power station to the roof of Tasku shopping centre located in the heart of Tartu, which will be covering up to 4% of the centre’s annual electricity consumption. The second biggest solar power station in Tartu is ordered by Estiko Energia OÜ.

According to Andres Sutt, member of the board of Eesti Energia, a solar power station is economically friendly and low-risk investment for the future, which helps to achieve an apparent saving from your current electricity expenses. “The goal of Eesti Energia is to help companies in finding a solution meeting their needs. We are offering our business clients with larger electricity consumptions quality solar power production devices made by the world’s leading producers. Enefit Green, the renewable energy company of Eesti Energia, will ensure a smooth process from designing to final configurations and transfer to production. Enefit Green takes care of construction and activity licences, and network connection documentation necessary for the client as well,” Sutt explained.

According to the chairman of the board of AS Estiko, Neinar Seli, the company decided to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia and Estiko group as well by reducing their ecological footprint and starting using up to 1 megawatt of renewable energy. “As the first step, we will establish a solar power station to the roof of Tasku centre, which conserves 750 trees and prevents 150 tons of CO2 emissions a year,” Seli added.

At Tasku centre in the heart of Tartu, close to 50 shops, 10 eating places, cinema centre Cinamon, conference and party centre Dorpat, medical centre and different bureaus operate. The production capacity of the solar power station consisting of 560 solar panels being established on the roof of Tasku centre is 131 kW. The system being installed will cover ca 4% of the annual electricity consumption of the entire Tasku centre. At the moment, necessary preparations are taking place to start building the solar power station. The station will start operating in summer.

Eesti Energia offers two possibilities for business clients for taking solar power into use. The first option for the client is to choose the unique full-service solution, where Eesti Energia installs a solar power station to the building or immovable of the company and sells the produced electricity to the client for covering their daily consumption. The first solar power station built this way, is located in Järva County on the roof of OÜ Estonia dairy farm. The full-service solution suits those business clients whose annual electricity consumption is more than 500 MWh and they have over 2000 m2 of free roof space or land.

In case of the second option, the client has the possibility of acquiring the solar power station from Eesti Energia in turnkey principle. Eesti Energia helps to find a suitable technical solution, procures appropriate devices, deals with the preparation and installation of the solution. More information about solar electricity solutions offered by Eesti Energia can be found on the home page.

Decentralized energy is a globally fast-growing trend, which supplements former centralized electricity production with local production units near the place of consumption. The goal of establishing solar electricity production stations located by the client is to increase the share of local electricity production in Eesti Energia’s production portfolio. The strategic goal of Eesti Energia is to produce 40% of electricity from renewable and alternative sources by 2021.
