The decision to shut down Unit 1 in a controlled manner was determined by the occurrence of a defect at one of the process systems of the power plant, and the actions imposed in compliance with the design of the power plant require a controlled shut down.
Cernavoda NPP specialist are analyzing the case in an integrated manner, and the Unit will be restarted after the remediation works will be completed. We estimate that the outage will have a duration of 48 hours.
The remediation works will have no adverse impact on the personnel, the population and the environments. The works will be carried out in compliance with the specific NPP procedures.
S.N. Nuclearelectrica SA (“SNN”) announces the reduction of power at Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 to 55% (aprox. 300 MW).
The power reduction of Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 is caused by the need to replace a component (bearing) at the engine of a condensation pump, in the classical part of the power plant. The power reduction to 55% is necessary in order to shut down the respective equipment for repair works.
During the power reduction, Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 will remain connected to the National Power Grid and operate a 300 MW.
Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 will reach nominal power after the completion of repair works and equipment replacement, power reduction duration being estimated at 16 hours until nominal power.
Unit 2 power reduction and the repair works will have no adverse impact on the personnel, population and environments; works will be performed in compliance with the procedures od the power plant.
