Giant Octopus added to the CPC’s stock of ER equipment

Three Ro-Clean Desmi manufactured Giant Octopus skimmers successfully passed acceptance and comprehensive testing procedures. The manufacturer’s representatives participated in the testing which took place in the CPC MT small boat shelter area.

The Giant Octopus skimmer system is the latest model in the offshore oil spill response equipment range. The Giant Octopus is a unique skimmer system featuring 15 belt brushes, organized in 3 modules of 5 brushes each. The Giant Octopus operates within a 360 degree oil recovery range which allows a maximum pumping capacity of 250m³ per hour. (for reference: capacity of conventional similar systems does not exceed 75 m³ per hour).

The equipment set consists of the 120 kW hydraulic power pack, reel drum with a special floating umbilical for hydraulic and cargo hoses.

Superior-quality and reliable components for this equipment are designed for use in the harshest climates which is critical for operation under storm and wind load and various temperature regimes in the Black Sea.

At present the Caspian Pipeline Consortium is the only company in Russia to operate this type of oil gathering systems. CPC pays much attention to the environmental issues and implements environment protection measures. At the WWF Environmental Rating closing ceremony which took place in late November 2018 at the Analytical Center for the RF Government CPC was acknowledged the best in the Environmental Impact category among O&G companies operating in Russia.
