The vessel has been chartered for a long term to transport oil fr om the Oil Export Terminal in port Prigorodnoye, wh ere it was recently successfully loaded for the first time.

The cargo is intended for one of the company’s regular customers in the Asia-Pacific region — JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation, Japan.

Sovcomflot-owned vessel was built by South Korean shipbuilders using modern technology to meet the highest safety requirements. Its cargo capacity is more than 124 thousand cubic metres, and it can transport about 100 thousand tonnes of Sakhalin oil per trip. The vessel is operated by a Russian crew. The vessel’s 1C ice class (according to the DNV international classification) allows for year-round navigation, while the laser system for measuring the distance to the tanker loading unit (TLU) in port Prigorodnoye enhances the safety of mooring operations. To ensure its compatibility with the TLU, the tanker was additionally equipped with a bow loading system (BLS) during the last planned docking, after which the system was tested at a ship repair facility.

Before the first loading, Zaliv Baikal successfully passed a special test for the vessel to get a permit to work under the Sakhalin-2 project. The test consisted in successful mooring to the tanker loading unit in port Prigorodnoye, checking the performance of the entire cargo system and the electronic bow loading systems, and was also aimed at familiarising the crew with the specific features of operations.

The Sakhalin Blend oil cargo that Zaliv Baikal is to transport to the Japanese port of Kiire is the 639th standard oil cargo since the launch of year-round shipping operations in port Prigorodnoye.

Apart from Japan, the main sales markets for the oil blend produced under the Sakhalin-2 project are South Korea and China. The shares of these three countries in 2018 remained as high as in the previous years, and in general accounted for about 98.6% of the total supply of the year.
