Enel X will provide charging points for the new SITP electric buses in Bogotá

Ноября 20, 2019

Enel in Colombia, through its advanced energy services business line Enel X, will be responsible for the design, construction and supply of three terminals where the 379 SITP electric buses will be charged in Bogotá.

In addition, the company will install 177 charging points and the related infrastructure to ensure the charging for the correct operation of the fleet in the city.

The terminals will be located in the neighbourhoods of Fontibón and Usme, which will be able to host the 379 e-buses. They will also be equipped with the physical and electrical infrastructure for the maintenance of the new fleet, which will be managed by the concessionaires that Transmilenio defined, through an abbreviated selection process.

The three terminals will have an installed capacity of between 8 and 10 MW and will be able to simultaneously charge all the buses through fast chargers.

“We are proud to be part of this project because with the supply of the charging infrastructure for the new bus fleet, we can contribute to the development of electric mobility, energy transition and the transformation of Bogotá into a smart and sustainable city,” said Lucio Rubio, General Director of Enel in Colombia.

In November, Enel X will begin the design of the terminals followed by construction and civil works. The terminals are due to be delivered in the second half of 2020 so that the electric buses can start operating.

The project for the inclusion of the 379 electric buses in Bogotá's integrated transport system adds to other programmes that Enel X has already implemented in the country, both in public and private transportation. “This project is the latest example of our commitment to a sustainable future, and thanks to the electric mobility programmes that we have already implemented, we managed to avoid the emission of more than four thousand tons of CO2, reducing pollution from particulate matter and improving living conditions in cities,” said Rubio.

The integration of this fleet into the city's public transport system will place Bogotá and Santiago de Chile, where the Enel Group also supplied charging infrastructure for e-buses, as the cities with the largest electric bus fleet in the Latin American region. Enel X will continue contributing to boost electric mobility, with the experience and support of the Enel Group, already proven in several countries.

The Enel Group is one of the main private investors in Colombia’s energy sector, operating through Enel-Emgesa and Enel Green Power (EGP) Colombia in generation, in distribution through Enel-Codensa and in the advanced energy service business through Enel X. Enel-Emgesa is the country’s largest generation company with a total capacity of around 3.6 GW, of which approximately 3.1 GW from 15 hydro facilities and over 400 MW from two thermal power plants. Last April, EGP Colombia inaugurated El Paso, the country’s largest PV plant with an installed capacity of 86.2 MW. Enel-Codensa distributes and sells electricity to around 3.5 million end users in Bogotá and more than 100 municipalities in the departments of Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Tolima, Caldas and Meta, across 72,510 km of high, medium and low voltage networks. Enel X in Colombia offers innovative, digital solutions to public, corporate and residential customers, with over 400,000 efficent public lighting points and working in the electric mobility sector, with 357 public and private charging points installed in Bogotà and several projects to promote e-mobility for public transport (e-taxi, electric bike and vehicles sharing programmes, charging infrastructure for e-buses).

Enel X is Enel’s global business line dedicated to developing innovative products and digital solutions in sectors in which energy is showing the greatest potential for transformation: cities, homes, industries and electric mobility. Enel X holds the leading position in demand response programmes globally, with over 6 GW of demand response capacity currently managed and assigned in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
