For context, the 737 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity produced during the first six months of 2020 would provide sufficient electricity to cover the average consumption of nearly 250,000 households for an entire year.
According to Aavo Kärmas, Chairman of the Management Board of Enefit Green, strong wind conditions coupled with the company's reliable production units explain the good half-year output. Kärmas commented that "In the first months of the year, the winds were stable and strong, giving a good start to our production year. Enefit Green's absolute production record was set in January 2020, when one month's renewable electricity output reached 165 gigawatt-hours. At the same time, our solar farms in Estonia and Poland have shown strong production numbers, and the Ruhnu renewable energy solution has worked stably and without problems."
"The electricity output of Enefit Green's four cogeneration plants has also been good. However, our heat output was lower than last year, mainly due to the warmer-than-average winter months,” Kärmas added.
Enefit Green's heat output in the first six months of 2020 amounted to 249 gigawatt-hours, which is 10% less than the heat output during the first six months of 2019.
The 737 gigawatt-hour production result for the first half of 2020 includes the output generated by Estonian and Lithuanian wind farms, solar farms in Estonia and Poland, cogeneration plants in Iru, Paide, Valka and Broceni, Keila-Joa hydroelectric power plant and Ruhnu renewable energy solution.
The increase in renewable energy production will contribute to Eesti Energia's strategic goal of producing 43% of electricity and heat from renewable sources in 2024.
