Kaluga Turbine Works fulfill order for metallurgic company

Марта 06, 2010

Kaluga Turbine Works (KTZ), a branch of Power Machines, manufactured the first 50 MW steam turbine for Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK).

KTZ signed a contract for equipment procurement with OJSC Soyuz Power Development Corporation, the main contractor for NLMK’s power facility construction, in summer of 2008. Under the contract, KTZ will manufacture and supply a set of three ПТ-40/50-8,8/1,3 type steam turbines. Kaluga plant has previously produced turbine equipment for NLMK, but those were of lower capacity – 25 MW.  Previous supplies of steam turbines were KTZ’s standard products, and for the current ПТ-40/50 series the plant’s engineers developed a new project.
The new equipment will be installed at NLMK CHP, which is presently under construction.  Since the plant will use blast-furnace gas as the primary propellant, KTZ’s turbines will thus help to recycle it. The CHP will therefore enable to solve two problems – recycling of gas, which emission into the atmosphere must be prevented, and improving NLMK’s power supply.
The CHP of total capacity of 150 MW is scheduled to be put into operation in 2011.
