Rostov NPP: head of Rostekhnadzor confirmed readiness of power unit No.2 to energy startup

Purpose of arrival of head of Rostekhnadzor is control of readiness of power unit No.2 to energy startup and performing of construction supervision at building of units No. 3 and No. 4 of Rostov NPP.
According to head of Rostekhnadzor, all works are performed at high technological level and carried out strictly according to the schedule. «According to our inspections which we carry out in the framework of our competence, the program of reaching of the output level will be finished within the established terms», – informed head of Rostekhnadzor finishing round of startup objects complex of unit No.2.
As noted Nikolay Kutyin, energy startup of the second unit of Rostov NPP is significant event not only for the nuclear power branch, but also for the entire Russia. «It shows that Russia remains a nuclear state, that we have excellent construction industry, machine building plants work well, and the main thing – we are completely confident in qualification of the NPP staff. It is very important that all works are carried out at high quality level, that brings hope for further development of the nuclear power industry», – emphasized head of Rostekhnadzor.
On results of the visit, the following conclusions were made: conditions of validity of license for construction of power unit No.2 are met; no violations of Federal legislation in the area of use of nuclear power, rules or standards that govern provision of nuclear and radiation safety are found; no remarks are there that impede joining of the power unit to the network of the United power system of Russia.
On 18 March of 2010 at Rostov NPP, in accordance with the approved program «Energy startup and reaching of output level», joining of power unit No.2 to the network of the United power system of Russia will be carried out.
Power unit No. 2 of Rostov NPP became firstling of Program of nuclear power industry perspective development approved in 2006. it is the first power unit built in Russia for the recent five years. Its construction and startup mean returning of the branch to serial construction of nuclear power plants.
Execution of Program on startup and commissioning of the second power unit of Rostov (Volgodonsk) NPP was started on 19 December of 2009, when the first heat-emission assembly (HEA) was installed into the reactor, that started the first criticality of the reactor (all 163 assemblies were loaded by 24 December). On January 22 of the current year, the power unit reactor installation was put to minimum controller output level.
Since 20 February of 2010, at power unit No. 2, Program  «Energy startup and reaching of capacity» is being executed. In the framework of the program the following operations are being performed: increasing of capacity of the power unit from 1 to 35 %, testing of turbogenerator at idle running, scheduled tests of the power unit technological systems and safety systems, as well as trial operations on synchronization and connection of the generator to network in the framework of operational and verification testing.
Further, when works on integrated testing of the power unit at capacity level of 50 % will be finished, the power unit will be put into experimental-industrial pilot production. After reaching of nominal capacity (100%) and performing of delivery trial, the power unit will be accepted for industrial operation.
