TNK-BP Opened Safety Academy

Апреля 07, 2010

TNK-BP announces the opening of a Safety Academy based at one of the Group’s main plants – the Ryazan Oil Refining Company — where Group company employees and their contractors will undergo training.

The Academy has been launched in the context of TNK-BP’s long-term strategy of qualitative improvement of its health and safety performance. The Academy will provide six month trainings in advanced process management that have been successfully applied in international corporate practice, but that are not always familiar to Russian managers. The attendants will be trained in risk detection and evaluation methods, together with programs for devising corrective actions. The training will be conducted in 22 groups of 10 members each. Each group will consist of employees from different levels — from mechanic and unit foreman to deputy department director. Mixed groups are introduced in order to cover the subjects from different points of view.
“TNK-BP’s health and safety policy is to minimize the number of industrial injuries and prevent accidents and equipment failures. In 2009, injury levels were down by 35% compared to 2008, and by 68% compared to 2007. We cannot rest on our laurels, however, and must improve performance”, stated Igor Karlin, Acting Vice President, Health, Safety and Environment, TNK-BP.
