NGDU Elkhovneft was established on July 1, 1962 by virtue of a Decree of the Council of National Economy of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic on the basis of existing Leninogorskneft and Almetyevneft oil production shops.
The Production Board reached peak production in the amount of 12.7 million tons of crude oil per year during the period of 1975-1977. Elkhovneft produced the first 100 million tons of crude oil in 1974, while the 200 million tons amount was produced in 1983.
In addition to Novo-Elkhovskoye crude oil field, today Elkhovneft develos a number of small deposits, such as Vostochno-Makarovskoye, Aksarinskoye, Melninskoye and Yuzhno-Mukhinskoye and also a medium size Sokolkinskoye field. The area of NGDU activity amounts to 2,950 square km, and covers Almetyevsk, Leninogorsk, Cheremshany, Bugulma, Zainsk and Nizhnekamsk areas of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Production Board operates 5,524 wells.
