According to Alexei Komarov, manager at the OJSC Orenburgneft’s HSE Department, inspections were conducted at all facilities to ensure the availability and seamless operations of outdoor fire-fighting water supply (fire hydrants and basins), fire-fighting implements, fixed fire-extinguishing appliances, operational communications and preventive signage. Additional fire safety training and orientation were offered as well.
To improve fire protection levels at the company’s facilities located in steppe areas during the fire season, backpack extinguishers have been acquired to provide first response to local fire outbreaks. In addition, volunteer fire-fighter crews and a technical fire-fighting commission have been put together in workshops and various services to step up fire prevention and response. A round-the-clock fire watch has also been organised at company facilities.
“Fire drills are held on a regular basis in our company”, said Alexei Komarov. “Mock fire-fighting routines have already become a tradition at our on-site facilities. During such drills all services respond as a well-oiled mechanism. In addition, employees from LLC “Protivopozharnaya Zaschita” responsible for fire safety hold regular training sessions with our volunteer fire fighters to brush-up on the minimum knowledge required to fulfil their duties”.
