Siting licenses for Leningrad Phase II units

Июня 04, 2010

Russia's Rosenergoatom has received siting licenses for reactors 3 and 4 of the Leningrad Phase II power station from the nuclear regulator – the Federal Service for Ecological Technological and Nuclear supervision (Rostekhnadzor).

The licenses are valid until April 2013. The construction license for unit 1 was granted in June 2008 while the unit 2 received its in July 2009.
Construction on the first of 1085 MWe VVER-1200 reactors began with first concrete being poured in 2008 and work on the second unit followed in April this year. For reactors 3 and 4 construction is expected some time in late 2010 or early 2011, Rosenergoatom said. Output from the Leningrad Phase II reactors is partially intended to replace that from the four reactors of the original Leningrad plant, two of which are scheduled for closure by 2021.
