In May no violations of safe operation limits and conditions at the nuclear power plant were detected. Power unit No. 2 was included in the network on May 28 after the planned mid-life repair. During the repair campaign routine maintenance and repair of equipment and piping of power unit No. 2 were conducted. The televisual inspection of the biological protection tank and housing of power unit No.2 reactor was implemented using unique equipment.
Currently, Bilibino NPP operates power units Nos. 2, 3, 4; the units are operated in accordance with the dispatch schedule. Power unit No. 1 is in the warehouse spare.
Radiation background at Bilibino NPP and in the area of its location corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed natural environmental values.
Bilibino NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located next to Bilibino city, in the Chukotka Autonomous District. The nuclear heat and power plant operates four EGP-6 uranium-graphite pressurized tube reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 12MW (el.). The first power unit was commissioned in 1973, the second – in 1974, the third – in 1975, and the fourth one – in 1976. The plant produces about 75% of energy generated in Chaun-Bilibino isolated electricity system (upon that the system provides 40% of energy to the Chukotka Autonomous District).
