TNK-BP Supports Indigenous Minorities of the North

TNK-BP Sibir, branch of TNK-BP Management in the city of Tyumen, transferred funds for financial support of indigenous minorities of the North in the framework of the cooperation agreement signed between the Administration of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area and TNK-BP for social and economic development of the Purovsk District.

These funds will be used for purchasing equipment, materials and commodities required for everyday activities of fishermen and reindeer herdsmen in the Purovsk District, in particular, 10 snowmobiles Buran, 10 outboard motors Yamaha-40, automobile tires, canvas, winter suits, anti-encephalitis suits, compound feed for animals, and veterinary medicines. Apart from that, the financial support will be used for organizing a Reindeer Herder Day and purchasing products and items of vernacular trades and arts for social support of the local population.
TNK-BP subsidiaries OJSC Rospan International and OJSC GeoResource are producing hydrocarbons in the Vostochno-Urengoisky, Novo-Urengoisky, and Resursny license areas on the territory of the Purovsk District in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. According to Rustem Bakirov, General Director of OJSC Rospan International, conclusion of cooperation agreements for social and economic development of the oil and gas production territories is a traditional practice of TNK-BP. “We are trying to support inhabitants of Yamal, including indigenous minorities of the North, and introduce modern technologies into their traditional lifestyle,” noted Rustem Bakirov.
