The participants of the press-club which integrated the editors of city and neighborhood regional papers visited the construction site of Baltic NPP. The journalists were shown a place of future ground excavation for the first nuclear reactor.
Representative of the general contractor of the preparatory period, Executive Director of Northern Construction Management OJSC Alexander Scherikanov told the guests about the works performed on the construction site and the works to be implemented by the end of this year. “More than 76% of employees of the constructed NPP are local citizens. And the demand for personnel will only increase” he pointed out.
In his turn Adviser Director General of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Yuri Shamilov told the mass media about the prospective offered for the region after the commissioning of Baltic NPP, investors’ interests and plans for electric energy distribution, specialists recruitment and personnel training in local educational institutions.
According to Yuri Shamilov it is planned to carry out such meetings on the regular basis. “They provide journalists with the opportunity to get timely and true information at first hand. Within our short-range plans we are to meet leading specialists of Rosatom State Corporation, Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, field scientific and research institutes, as well as to visit the constructed NPPs”, he said.
At present 319 people are involved in the construction of Baltic NPP, 243 of them are the citizens of Kaliningrad region.
Baltic NPP was founded on February 25, 2010 in Neman district, Kaliningrad region. It is constructed in accordance with the NPP-2006 project and will consist of two power units with total capacity of 2,300 mW. The first unit is to be commissioned in 2016, and the second – in 2018. The plant is intended to provide electrical energy for Kaliningrad region and to perform the energy export. For the first time in Russian nuclear power industry private investors, including foreign ones, have been invited to participate in the project. They may acquire up to 49% of shares of BltNPP project. At present the negotiations with potential investors are being carried.
