Smolensk NPP is preparing for scheduled complex exercises

Every year SNPP contributes to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by power plants of Smolensk region.

During the preparation for the scheduled complex emergency response exercise (CERE) the extended meeting of the working group was held in the Public Information Centre of Smolensk NPP (Desnogorks, Smolensk region) in collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus. The exercises will be held on September 22-24, 2010 at the sites of the following meeting participants: heads of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Departments, heads of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, administration representatives of Smolensk region, Ershichesk and Roslavl districts, Desnogorks city.
The Timing Schedule of Preparation of SNPP Complex Emergency Response Exercise was approved by General Director of Rosenergoatom and discussed during the meeting. The working group performed the inspection of test points which are to be the sites for exercising of actions in the event of a probable emergency situation.
The list of participants of the exercise-2010 includes structural subdivisions of Smolensk NPP and Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, the emergency power plant assistance group, the branch Crisis Management Centre, Information Analysis Centre of Rostekhnadzor, Novovoronezh branch of Emergency Centre of the Ministry of Nuclear Power of Russia (Saint-Petersburg), as well as technical support centres of the branch research institutes.
The territorial bodies of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, military units of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Civil defense emergency preparedness agencies of Desnogorsk will be also involved on the exercise, as well as foreign observers and и IAEA representatives.
The purpose of CERE is to perfect readiness in case of hypothetical radiation accident at the nuclear power plant and interaction between the involved emergency response agencies, as well as skills in implementation of measures aimed at organization and performance of emergency localization and management.
Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.
