For the second year running, chemical and engineering companies are the most energy-efficient ones among large consumers of heat and electricity

Июля 02, 2010

Chemical and Engineering Enterprises are the Most Energy-Efficient Among Largest Energy Consumers, according to the Result of Energy Cooperation.

They have won 17% of top places (each industry respectively) in the "Large Business" nomination in the 2010 Energy Cooperation Competition held by IES-Holding in 16 regions of Russia, having received 20 awards as "The Most Energy Efficient Company of the Year".
Over the last year, those companies undertook a number of actions to increase their energy efficiency. For example, they installed electronic meters for heat and hot water supply and automatic equipment to optimize energy consumption; renewed thermal insulation of pipes and facilities; flushed heating systems, etc.
Medical institutions (23%), higher educational establishments (21%) and retail trade companies (20%) received the largest number of prizes in nominations "State-run and Municipal Companies, Public Sector Companies" and "Small / Medium-size Companies".
The majority of companies that have been awarded an "anti-prize" "The Energy Vampire of the Year" are utility sector companies. They received 10 out of 16 "Energy Vampires".
Competition results were announced in late May - early June, and 306 companies - electricity and heat consumers - received awards. Over 6500 companies and organizations took part in the competition. In addition to IES-Holding representatives, the jury included representatives of regional authorities, regulatory bodies, the mass media, environment protection organizations and industry experts. The Center for Energy Efficient Solutions at Giprokommunenergo provided expert support for the event.
The main objective of Energy Cooperation Competition is to discover and encourage the most efficient users of electricity and heat. The main criteria for selecting winners are: the volume of energy-saving technologies and use of modern power metering and control systems. Prizes were awarded in six nominations: "Large Business", "Small / Medium-Size Business", "State-run and Municipal Enterprises; Public Sector Companies", "Agricultural Companies", "Homeowners Associations, Management Companies, Municipal Utilities Companies", and "Grid Companies".
The Energy Cooperation Competition was held for the second time this year, and its results show that each year it attracts a growing number of participants, experts and the mass media. This means that taking part in the competition becomes more important, and winning becomes more significant and honorable," - said IES-Holding President Mikhail Slobodin.
