Participating in the opening ceremony were Valery Golubev, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, Artis Kampars, Latvian Minister of Economics and Alexander Veshnyakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Latvia, as well as representatives of the leading European petroleum companies.
“Strengthening long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation with the Baltic states is one of Gazprom’s strategic objectives. Gazprom’s Representative Office will increase the Company’s large-scale projects execution efficiency and give an additional impetus to developing closer cooperation among the states of the entire region,” said Valery Golubev.
In 2008 pursuant to the decision made by the Board of Directors Gazprom opened the Company’s Representative Office in the Republic of Latvia and appointed Evgeny Roldugin as its director. The major goal of the Office is to contribute to mutually beneficial economic cooperation of Gazprom with the Baltic states, represent and protect the Company’s interests in the region. The sphere of activity also includes searching for new directions and forms of Gazprom’s operation on the energy markets of the Baltic states. In addition, the Representative Office will provide informational and analytical support to the projects being implemented in the region and will participate in coordination of efforts made by the companies being established in the Baltic states by Gazprom.
