At present power units Nos. 1,2,3 are in operation. Power unit No. 4 since June 29 has been undergoing scheduled preventive maintenance.
The radiation environment in Kola NPP territoryand in the 30 km control area does not differ from the natural environmental background. The radiation background level in Kola NPP territory is within the limits of the natural background values.
Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Kola NPP is located 200 km southwards from Murmansk on the shore of Lake Imandra. Power unit No.1 was commissioned in 1973. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. The type of reactor is VVER-440. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
