This event is preliminary classified as a zero level (below the scale) event by the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES), i.e. has no impact on the plant and the personnel safety.
At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 2 and 4. Power unit No.3 is under scheduled preventive maintenance. The actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule.
The radiation background at Kursk NPP and in the area of its location does not differ and corresponds to the normal operation of power units. It does not exceed the natural environmental values.
Kursk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Seym river, 40 kilometers south-westward from Kursk city. The NPP operates four power units with pressurized-tube reactors with total capacity of 4 million KW. Kursk NPP is the largest power generating source in the Central Black Earth Belt.
