As a result of technical upgrading, the transformer voltage increased from 325 MVA to 400 MVA, which significantly enhanced the reliability of power supply to more than 1.5 million inhabitants of the northern and central areas of Dagestan, including the local capital - the city of Makhachkala. Investment by JSC FGC UES into the reconstruction of the substation totaled more than RUR 400 mln.
Under the reconstruction of 330 kV Chiryurt substation started in November 2009, 125 MVA variac was replaced with state-of-the-art unit with 200 MVA of capacity; modern relay protection and automation devices, SF6 circuit-breakers, isolating links, current and voltage transformers, advanced fire extinguishing system were installed, power and control cables were laid, the substation site improvements were completed.
330 kV Chiryurt substation was built in 1974 and is the tie-substation of the South of Russia. It provides for power output of Sulak HPP Cascade into the unified energy system of the South. Among large industrial customers of the substation there are plants “Aviaagregat”, “Electrosignal”, “Sudoremont”, oil-refining companies CJSC “Kaspiy-2”, CJSC “Kaspian oil field companies”, LLC “Neftegazresourse”, and other.
