Августа 02, 2010

In Erevan there was held a meeting of Armenian Government which approved the agreement with Russian Government on “Cooperation in Construction of New Nuclear Power Units on the Armenia Territory”.

Previously the agreement was discussed and approved in all concerned departments, said Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia Armen Movsyan – this information is provided by “Novosti-Armenia” (Armenian News).
The agreement regulates cooperation in the construction of new VVER power units with 1060 mW capacity. Apart from the project works implementation, Russia and Armenia will cooperate in the personnel training, moreover the Russian part will provide technical support for the power units operation and import nuclear fuel for new power units.
By estimate of the Armenian Ministry of Energy, the construction of one power unit with capacity of 1000 mW will cost 5 billion dollars. The construction is to be started in 2011.
In 2006 the Armenial Parliament abolished the government monopoly on possession of new nuclear power units in order to involve foreign funds in the construction.
