The same can be said about Novovoronezh nuclear power plant located in Voronezh region. But the fact that the fires damage power transmission lines providing generating facilities power is a far greater problem.
So, on August 2, at 03.06 p.m. by activation of shutdown control NV NPP – Voronezhskaya 500 kWt overhead power transmission line was shut down because of the forest fire in the neighborhood of Mikhailovka village situated at 8 km from NV NPP and from 03.34 to 03.54 p.m. the Kolodeznaya-1,2 110 kWt overhead line was shut down four times. The system was actuated in the normal mode.
According to the data of NV NPP Public Information Centre there were neither changes in the nuclear power plant operation, nor injuries. The events had no impact on Novovoronezh NPP operation. At present the three operating power units of the plant operate in the normal mode.
The radiation background at Novovoronezh NPP and in the area of its location corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the shore of the Don river, 42 km southwards from Voronezh. At present three power units are in operation: power units Nos. 3 and 4 with VVER-440 reactors and power unit No.5 with the VVER-1000 reactor.
