The visit was organized within the framework of the Ecuadorean specialists internship in South-West State University (Kursk) undertaken in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ecuador, Environment Monitoring and Protection program.
Delegation of Javeriana Politechnical University (Universidad Escuela Politecnica del Ecuador, Quito) consisting of 22 people visited large energy and industrial enterprises of Kursk region to acquaint themselves with the situation and technologies in the sphere of ecology. The trip to Kursk NPP was organized at the guests’ request.
“We’ve come here because we know that Russia has high technologies in the field of nuclear power generation”, head of the delegation Maria Klara Peralta said. “Judging by the experience of your country, we see that such source of energy would suit our country. Not only because of far less atmospheric emissions as compared to other sources of energy. The quality of your technologies is very high and we’d like to adopt them and use in our country”.
In Kursk NPP PIC specialists from the enterprise radiation safety department provided the guests with information on protection of atmospheric air and organization of the environment radiation monitoring.
The parties expressed a mutual desire to cement relations regarding nuclear power industry development.
Kursk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Seym river, 40 kilometers south-westward from Kursk city. The NPP operates four power units with pressurized-tube reactors with total capacity of 4 million KW. The power units were connected to the united energy system of the country in 1976-1985. in 1994-2009 they were modernized. Kursk NPP is the largest power generating source in the Central Black Earth Belt.
