Smolensk NPP: the first power unit was put out of operation for scheduled major overhaul

The overhaul will include changing of process channels, special systems and exhausted equipment and strengthening of building structures of hot premises. The set of remanufacturing operations will help to provide the power unit safe operation at least for 15 years beyond the set project period.
At present the nuclear power plant operates power units Nos. 2 and 3. Their total capacity is equal to 1,935 megawatt. No failures in the equipment performance have been detected.
In the current year, during the 15 days of August the SNPP power units have generated 912 million kWh of electric power. Since the beginning of the year the plant has totally generated 14 billion 77 million kWh.
The radiation background at Smolensk NPP industrial site and in the adjacent territory has not changed and corresponds to the natural environmental values.
