Leningrad NPP: Power unit No.4 has been shut down for auxiliary piping repair

On August 16, 2010 at 9:55 p.m. power unit No.4 of the Leningrad NPP was unloaded and deenergized because leakiness in the auxiliary piping of turbine department mechanical equipment had been revealed.

The power unit unload was successfully performed by the plant personnel according to the process regulations and project procedure.
Power unit No.4 will be cut into mains with power ramp-up in accordance to the process regulations and the operation load diagram after needed repair of the damaged area.
This event is preliminary classified as corresponding to zero level (off the scale) under the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES), i.e. is non-essential for the plant and personnel safety.
At the present time Leningrad NPP operates power units Nos.2 and 3 with total load approximately 2,000 MW according to the operation load diagram. Starting operations are being carried on on power unit No.1 after finished planned preventive maintenance.
According to the automated radiation-monitoring system data, the radiation background on the Leningrad NPP territory and in a 30 km control area does not differ from the natural radiation background (0.13 mk3V/hour).
