Rostov NPP: the works at the construction site of power units Nos. 3 and 4 are performed ahead of schedule

Summarizing the results of the past month, Deputy Director of NIAEP OJSC – Head of Volgodonsk Representative Office Vyacheslav Makhonin paid attention to high speed of the facilities’ construction.
The works on ceiling installation of power unit No.3 reactor compartment at the mark of “+6.6” have almost been implemented; the construction of the contour walls up to the mark of "10.8" is held ahead of schedule. The works on pipeline placement from power unit No.3 reactor compartment up to stand-by diesel power plant No.2 are ahead of schedule by 48 days. There is a high percentage of performance of installation and construction works at power unit No.4; today this figure is equal to 104%.
During the meeting the headquarters have listened to reports of heads of main contracting organizations and supply services and defined objectives for the nearest months.
In September it is planned to complete the erection of contour walls of power unit No.3 reactor compartment up to the mark of “+10.8”, in October – the erection of columns, flooring joists, ceilings of the aboveground part of the electric devices stand; in November the constructors plan to complete installation of the metal frame of power unit No.3 turbine house.
At present the works at the construction site involve 43 contracting organizations and engage more than 4,000 thousand people. Moreover, according to Vyacheslav Makhonin the number of workers, involved in the primary production, will only increase: “We are expecting the increase in manpower at four construction organizations – “Trest RosSEM”, :Sezam”, “Mosenergostroy” and Construction Directorate-1. They are to perform the major part of works. We are starting to work three shifts on a twenty-four-hour basis,” he stressed.
Summarizing the results of the headquarters activity, head of the project – Director of NIAEP OJSC Valery Limarenko addressed the constructors: “The construction pace is good and it proves that we are taking right decisions in terms of organization of the construction process. The main thing is that everyone understands that the physical startup of Rostov NPP power unit No.3 in 2013 is the most important national objective.”
Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. Power unit No.1 which was put into commercial operation in 2001 has the operated VVER-1000-type pressurized water reactor with installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
The physical start-up of power unit No 2 with the reactor of the same type was carried out in December, 2009. Power unit No 2 undergoes the stage of experimental-industrial pilot production. Power units Nos. 3 and 4 are being constructed.
