At present the commission of Rosenergoatom Concern continues its work at Kalinin NPP in order to provide the final conclusion on the shutdown cause.
This event is preliminary classified as a zero level (below the scale) event by the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES), i.e. has no impact on the plant and the personnel safety.
Kalinin NPP operated three power units. Power unit No.2 worked with capacity 980 mW. The capacity of power units Nos. 1 and 3 corresponded to the dispatch schedule.
The radiation background in the area of Kalinin NPP location and inthe adjacent territory corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated in the north of Tver region in Udomlya district. Kalinin nuclear power plant comprises three operating power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) of 1,000 mW capacity each. Power unit No. 4 is under construction now and is to be commissioned in 2011.
