As Director of the Barnstorf oil production site, Pünnel will be responsible for the entire onshore and offshore production of crude oil and natural gas for the Wintershall operations in Germany. Previously, Pünnel was in charge of the operations department at Barnstorf from 2007.
The mining engineer, who qualified in Petroleum Engineering in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, has been working for Wintershall since 2002; he began at the Group headquarters in Kassel, and has been located at the Barnstorf site of Wintershall Deutschland since 2007. Before that he worked as an engineer in Syria, the Netherlands and the UK. Pünnel comes from Duisburg and is married with three children.
Wintershall Holding GmbH, based in Kassel, Germany, is a wholly-owned sub-sidiary of BASF in Ludwigshafen. The company has been active in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas for over 75 years. Wintershall focuses on selected core regions where the company has built up a high level of regional and technological expertise. These are Europe, North Africa, South America, as well as Russia and the Caspian Sea region. In addition, these operations are complemented by the company’s growing exploration activities in the Arabian Gulf.
