Kazakhstan Power System Receives up to 700 MW Power from Kyrgyzstan

Сентября 20, 2010

700 MW (17 mln kWh per day) of power is received hourly in the UPS of Kazakhstan from Kyrgyzstan during vegetative period started early in August, which matches extra water discharge at Toktogulskaya HPP dam site of about 230 m3/sec, while the required level of water intake of 215 m3/sec.

Currently, the interested parties fulfill the obligations in full, which were assumed within intergovernmental agreement (for advance payment for power) in December 2009.
According to the United Power Grid Operator of Central Asia (CDC “Energiya”), water intake in Kazakhstani part of Dostyk Canal was 97 m3/sec (90 m3/sec planned ) during the first ten-day period of August, and 103 m3/sec (80 m3/sec planned) during the second ten-day period of August. Maximum capacity of the canal, which is used for irrigation of cotton plants in the southern regions of Kazakhstan, reaches 110 m3/sec.
In the current season reservoirs of Kyrgyz Republic accumulated sufficient amount of water, which makes it possible to meet the requirements of irrigation water in neighboring countries.
