The CERE is to train the readiness to act in case of a factitious technological and radiation emergency at the nuclear power plant; cooperation between engaged emergency response structures as well as practical skills of Smolensk NPP personnel in organization and performance of works related to emergency localization and management, including sheltering and NPP personnel evacuation.
Every year Rosenergoatom Concern holds complex emergency response exercises at one of Russian nuclear power plants. This year they are combined with exercises of Russian and Belorussian Ministries of Emergency Situations aimed at perfection of actions in case of natural disasters, in particular fires and earthquakes.Russian and foreign observers, IAEA representatives from Armenia, Belorussia, Bulgaria, Germany, China, Korea, Romania, the USA, the Ukraine, France and Sweden as well as about 50 Russian and Belorussian journalists are coming to Desnogorsk city to watch the exercise.
Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Every year SNPP contributes to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by the power plants of Smolensk region.
