We are consistently improving our transportation safety indicators and have reduced the number of major road traffic accidents by 25% in 2009 compared to 2008. A set of measures planned for October 1–30 will become another important step towards improving the quality of work of our employees.
The main purpose of this traditional safety awareness month is to spread the best transportation safety practices, help employees prepare to the coming winter, reduce the rate of road traffic accidents and injuries during transportation in harsh weather conditions, and minimize the risks and numbers of road traffic accidents.
The attention of safety control managers and road traffic safety specialists will be primarily directed to technical conditions of the vehicle fleet. The stringent requirements of TNK-BP’s “Transportation Safety” standard match global best practices and imply close control over key parameters of the vehicle fleet.
Preservation and maintenance of good health of its employees is one of TNK-BP’s priorities. For this reason, particular attention is paid to training of drivers, organization of transportation, rest time of drivers, quality of medical examinations, and responsibility of contractors for poor safety assurance.
