Novovoronezh NPP is ready for operation under conditions of autumn and winter maximum

In the course of the inspection the commission didn’t reveal any serious troubles hindering the nuclear power plant operation in the above period.
On the basis of the inspection results the Concern commission recommended to issue Certificate of readiness for operation in the autumn and winter period of 2010-2011 for Novovoronezh NPP and to forward the plan of measures developed according to the inspection results to the Concern Inspection and security control department by 10.11.2010.
Every year all Russian NPPs receive certificates of readiness for bearing the load in autumn and winter period which is a stiff examination for the nuclear scientists. During this period power-generating equipment operates at the maximum load. The certificate of readiness is issued by General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC after completion of final inspection carried out at an NPP by its specialists.
Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don River, 42 km to the south of Voronezh.This is the first NPP in Russia with VVER-type reactors (pressurized water reactors of the vessel type using light pressurized water). Each of the five plant reactors is the main one – a prototype of serial power-producing reactors: power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, power units Nos. 3, 4 with the VVER-440 reactors, and power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor.
At present three power units are in operation (power units Nos. 1, 2 were shut down in 1988 and in 1990 respectively).
