International insurance inspectors highly appreciated the level of Kola NPP operation

The members of the delegation analyzed operation and repair procedures applied at Kola NPP, monitoring of condition and protection of the main plant systems at the site, environmental control.
Issues related to equipment monitoring and fault detection system control, probabilistic safety analysis of power units were considered separately. The experts have also studied equipment and systems modernization program and other important constituents.
At the final meeting the representatives of the international insurance inspectorate particularly noted the firefighting system of Kola NPP and highly appreciated the level of the power plant operation as a whole.
Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Power unit No.1 of Kola NPP was commissioned in 1973.
Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 mW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.

International nuclear insurance pooling systemis an international nongovernmental organization founded in 1957 and associating nuclear insurance pools from 26 countries including the Russian Federation. The aggregate capacity of the international property insurance pooling system is $2 bln, liability insurance system - $700 mln.
They have insured about 350 of 400 operating nuclear power units as well as a lot of nuclear fuel cycle enterprises in many countries.
