Bilibino NPP: power unit No. 1 has been connected to the grid upon completion of scheduled overhaul

After the overhaul completion the power unit has been in the “cold reserve”. During this period a work package aimed at improvement of safety and reliability of the power plant operation has been carried out.
At present Bilibino NPP is operating in the normal mode. All the four power units are in operation.
The radiation background in the area of the nuclear power plant location and inthe adjacent territory corresponds to the normal operation of power units and natural background values.
On December 11, 1973 a physical startup of the first power unit with the EGP-6 reactor with the rated thermal capacity equal to 62 MW, was performed. Its construction began in 1966. For the period of its operation the first power unit has generated 2 bln 278 mln kWh of electric power. For the 37 years of operation the four power units of Bilibino NPP have generated over 8 bln kWh of electric power. By the date of expiry of the 30-year project lifetime of Bilibino NPP power unit No. 1 all kinds of modernization ensuring the required safety level in the course of the power unit operation during the extended period had been fulfilled.
