Rostekhnadzor will carry out an inspection at Kola NPP jointly with STUK (Finland)

On November 15-19, 2010 representatives of state regulatory authorities of France and Finland will carry out joint inspection of Kola NPP to evaluate the operational safety of the nuclear power plant.

The process of inspection will be supervised by Head of Rostekhnadzor Administration for nuclear power plants and research nuclear facilities safety regulation Mikhail Miroshnichenko.
The distinctive feature of this inspection is participation of specialists from Radiation and Nuclear SafetyAuthority of Finland (STUK) headed by General Director Jukka Laaksonentogether with Rostekhnadzor representatives.
The Finnish specialists pay special attention to two NPPs located on the Russian-Finnish border – Kola NPP and Leningrad NPP. The first inspection like this was carried out at Kola NPP in 1996, and in 2007 a similar inspection was organized at Leningrad NPP.
The act and the list of proposals and comments to be submitted to KNPP Director Valily Omelchuk will be the result of the commission visit to Kola NPP.
Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Power unit No.1 of Kola NPP was commissioned in 1973. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 mW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
