Nuclear production: 100% of EDF's reactors are connected to the network

They guarantee EDF's clients a reliable source of power throughout this harsh winter, which has seen particularly high electricity consumption.
By connecting its 58 reactors and 19 nuclear power stations, an ideal configuration that has not been possible since December 2004, EDF can now produce 60 million kWh.
This technical achievement demonstrates the Group's industrial prowess. It was made possible thanks to the expertise of EDF's 23,000 employees and their partners involved in routine maintenance, operations and management and engineering studies on the nuclear fleet.
One priority: to produce energy at the right time, in complete safety and at the best price. EDF continues to strive to improve its nuclear fleet in order to meet the electrical needs of its clients at all times, and particularly during periods of high consumption when electricity is most vital. As a result, this year EDF is capable of producing 4,200 MW more on average in December and January than in 2009. In 2010, EDF's production reached 408 TWh, equivalent to an increase of around 5% on the previous year, giving France the opportunity to once more export electricity.
For several years, EDF's nuclear power stations have been running at 90% capacity during the peak winter consumption periods (from 1st December to 15th February) and making an essential contribution to safeguarding the country's energy supply.
EDF has built up an unrivalled nuclear network in France, becoming the linchpin for efficient electricity production. The challenge faced by the group, and the only guarantee of sustainable performance, is to continue to modernise its production systems which will require investments in the region of €3,5 billion a year.
